Angry Yelling on the Team Channel

Iggy grabs the radio uplink in the lead truck and yells, "That was not us! One of you fancy "Mech-pilots" did it! Genesis Company, breaking to the West!!!"

She hangs up the radio uplink and pats the driver on the shoulder, pointing out the window in front of them. "That way. Take a right and keep going."

(Right, sorry about that. Thought they'd be outside or something. My bad!!!)

The base intercom crackles to life, with the calm and confident voice of (you assume) the airfield commander, "Attention, all personnel, we are under attack. This is not a drill. Repeat, this is not a drill." In the background you can hear shouted orders and running feet. Shortly after his message ends, the base sirens thrum to life, their moaning wail vibrating your teeth even inside your armored cockpit.

"We've got a couple Techs and such on loan from the Lyrans, part of our contract, and one of them is getting ready to retire, on the 26th, see? But the Lyran Jumpship that brought you guys here is scheduled to leave on the 25th. He's not allowed to go until his term runs out. I don't know how they're going to get him on that jump, but there's a big party the night of the 24th anyway, you can come if you want.

Afterward, they found him half-dead, his 'Mech in tatters. NAIS, and that nutcase, Dr. Banzai, made him a new arm, since he lost one, and he's supposed to be able to pilot a 'Mech again. Well, in January they put him on trial for treason!"

"I guess Duke Hasek-Davion's people looked into it, and he'd gone and filed the exact route his battalion was taking with the locals, to 'minimize environmental damage' or somesuch. Then just before the Cappies hit, he wanders off by himself into a grove of trees, and once the unit is surrounded, he tells 'em they can't retreat that way 'cause it's a trap. When the dust settles a half-dozen nuggets are dead, and he claims he fought a Rifleman, when the Duke's investigators only found evidence of an Urbie."

"Well, he's all set to be hanged, and even his dad who's the chief spymaster or something isn't sure if he's loyal, and Prince Davion himself goes and exiles him. What does he do? Go straight to Solaris and join one of the Cappie gaming stables. Now he's killin' Davion 'Mechwarriors left and right, singing Mad Max's praises all the while. Next thing you know, all the Cappies' will be cyborgs, since he probably gave their scientists a good look at his arm too."

All right guys, I'm summing up some things in other posts in the "Mercenary Unit Management Section", since I only edit the post and it doesn't show up as new. Also, you should really read the whole second page of "Inner Sphere News", a lot's been going on. Here's the important facts:

- During Prince Hanse Davion's wedding to Archon-Designate Melissa Steiner on August 20th, he declared war on the Capellan Confederation (House Liao)!

- The Federated Suns launched a surprise attack, landing on nine Capellan worlds, most of which have already fallen, or are about to.

- The Lyran Commonwealth launched a simultaneous surprise attack, landing on 23 (!) Combine (House Kurita) worlds. Some have fallen, others continue to offer stiff resistance.

- The Draconis Combine has also launched a retaliatory invasion against the Federated Suns, targeted on three planets garrisoned by the Wolf's Dragoons. Fighting there continues.

- Last week a second wave of Davion attacks were launched, targeting nine more worlds, including Tikonov, capital of one of the five Commonalities (the Confederation's major regions).




More specifically for you guys:

- It is currently October 1st, 3028. Your contract with the Free Worlds League has just ended successfully.

- You are currently in a chartered dropship over Clipperton, in the Free Worlds League, and your office staff on Galatea have sent you an HPG with contract offers.

- Although you haven't taken any casualties recently, your unit has lost almost a quarter of its personnel to retirement, employment offers from the League or other mercs, etc. This has mostly affected your technical teams and infantry.

- Because of a): your salvage, and b): techs leaving your unit, you currently have only enough technicians to adequately maintain less than a third of your combat equipment.

- Many of your soldiers have gained enough XP to improve their skills or gain new ones.
